An 18-Storey Timber Tower in the Heart of Shanghai

The project envisions the construction of an 18-storey timber tower in the city of Shanghai. Designed to meet the highest ecological performance standards, the building will serve as a showcase for Québec’s expertise and resources.

A Strong Gesture in Response to Environmental Challenges

This initiative was launched in 2016 by the Director of Québec’s Delegation in China, with the goal of more concretely promoting Québec’s know-how in modern, environmentally efficient timber construction. In a country where ecological concerns have become a priority for both central and regional authorities, the multi-storey timber tower would house offices for the Government of Québec as well as for local and international private companies.

A Structuring Québec–Shanghai Partnership

Supported by the Ministry of International Relations and La Francophonie, the project will be carried out in partnership with construction stakeholders in both Shanghai and Québec, along with a network of Québec enterprises interested in developing in China. The Ministry is funding a feasibility study that will provide all parties with a reliable operational framework for involvement.

Beyond strengthening Québec–China professional and economic relations, the project also represents an unprecedented opportunity to promote and highlight Québec’s resources and expertise.
